Philosophy and Style of Counseling

How can I be of help?

Key Influences

My work is greatly influenced by the humanistic movement, particularly Carl Rogers. This theory believes that the key to mental health and holistic wellness is to tap into our own inner growth and move to self actualization. He developed a therapy model to facilitate this and is the primary model I base my counseling from.

Born from personal interest, I use philosophy from many key figures of yesteryear. Finding structure in a value system to help understand the world is key to positive mental health, especially for those of us without a clear religious system.

Techniques and Framework

Eastern approaches are on the rise as evidence based interventions, along with the mainstream success of cognitive and behavioral interventions from the 20th century. I draw upon mindfulness based practices, including meditation, along with more of the conventional CBT methods as a baseline for battling symptoms. Narrative therapy has also grown to be a staple of my counseling. The statements and scripts we tell ourselves, often subconsciously have major impacts on how we fell.

Balance and acceptance are the most prominent themes in my work. Almost all concerns are relevant to this and are key to finding sustainable solutions or changes. This often includes parts of ourselves and life that we are avoidant, fearful, or resistant of.
